about

Produced by Joe Harvard, engineered by Sean Slade and Joe Harvard on 2" MCI 24-track for the LP 'Country Eastern' at Fort Apache North. Mixed by Joe.

JH says:
"At the time I recorded 'Sinkhole' it was maybe 3 or 4 years that it had been out on the old White Dog demo, but they weren't doing the song live, so I figured 'what the hell ... great song, underutilized, I'll bring it to the world!' As it turns out though I recorded it in '89, and only gave the LP [via cassette] to a few pals, by the time anyone heard it, as an online release by Aeria in 2008, Kristin had redone the song herself! So much for being a pioneer."

Jim, Kristin's father, told Joe that the song was written during one of the family sing-alongs, when Kristin was only 13 or 14, and that the original hootenany version had something like 13 verses. Thirteen is Joe's lucky number, but he was having enough trouble remembering the four he was aware of and declined an offer to help polish the other nine.

A few live versions of the song can also be found on Joe's Bandcamp collections 'God Bless Joe Harvard' and 'Live in Ohio '93'.
