A friend since Harvard's Record Garage days in the mid-70's, when Joe and the bones had opened shows for the Shane Champagne Band, Dave Champagne is well represented on 'Buy American.' He appears on both sides of the LP -- here on the Over Here side as vocalist on Joe's song "Marjorie", and on a pair from Pink Cadillac on the Over There side. There was additional symmetry involved in his performance which would have been apparent to local listeners (had there been any): Dave and Kelly Knapp were a couple at the time, and each sang lead on a Harvard-penned track.

Pink Cadillac was in it's twilight, and Dave was looking for a new band and a new musical direction; Joe was looking for the same things, and the So-So tracks they recorded in 1984 nearly marked the beginning of their new group together. The window of opportunity to form a Harvard-Champagne band closed, however, soon after these So-So sessions occurred, when Dave met Mark Sandman. Recognizing a stylistic ally in one another the two immediately got together to form Treat Her Right, along with Billy Conway and Fort Apache co-founder Jim Fitting. Fitting would bring THR into Fort Apache South to record their thrice-released (Soul Selects, Demon, RCA) 8-track LP, although partner Harvard's sole contribution was a tape splice on the master 1/2" 8-track tape, to adjust the timing of the band's entry after the drone introduction on "No Reason". When the album's "3rd times the charm" RCA release hit the Billboard charts, the label decided to release both a jukebox 45 & cassette single version of "I Think She Likes Me" Harvard produced "Last Train", to provide a B-side for the of
