about

The bones recorded three times: at Polytrax, at Contempt, and at Perfect Crime, but never released any material to anyone. They managed to get "Drugs Make Me Smile" played on WHRB, the Harvard radio station, which Joe says "pretty much constitutes the entirety of our airplay for the band's career -- apart from a hilarious session up in Vermont at Dave's pal Pierre's NPR station, in which a pretty good live performance in a closet-sized studio was broadcast and recorded. When the tape hit the end, the engineer, assuming it was a quarter-track [i.e. , a consumer format that saves tape: two stereo tracks, left and right, going in one direction on half the tape ... which leaves room for two more stereo tracks when the tape is flipped over], flipped it. Later the tape Later we found that the tape was a half-track, so we had the beginning of our performance playing simultaneously with a backward version of the second part of the show. Classic bones hi jinks!"

lyrics

Whiskey makes me dizzy but I drink. Good things come in yellow, white and pink
Can’t stand up but now I can’t see you. Passed out on the floor – so what’s new?
Satisfaction guaranteed, well that’s a phrase for everybody but me

Rather read – about Marilyn, or Che – stay in bed and snort cocaine all day
Local anesthetics make me gay! Smoke some reefer, stay in bed and play.
[You don’t want to do what I want you to do.
You don’t want to do what I say I want you to do]
Satisfaction guaranteed, well that’s a phrase for everybody but me

Drugs make me smile. Drugs make me smile.

Solo

Satisfaction guaranteed, well that’s a phrase for everybody but me

Drugs make me smile. Drugs make me smile.
Drugs make me smile. Drugs make me smile.

There are every kind of drug in the world that I just love to take.
I like amphetamines! I like barbituates!
I like anything that ends in ‘A - L’ or ‘I – N – E’! I want to eat ‘em all!
I have the solution to the world’s drug problem: I will selflessly eat all drugs
‘Cuz drugs make me smile
