about

Tex Mex is actually Ted Pine, half of the songwriting team from the Sex Execs. The Execs had been a great band, leaving behind a fair recorded legacy before dissolving in the wake of losing the Rumble finals to 'Til Tuesday. Ted and Joe Harvard would work together in "Theo's" first band after the Sex Execs, Mr. Happy, beginning in late 1985. In the interim, he was playing around with various ideas, some of which found their way to tape at So-So.

Three other former Sex Execs would go on to join Joe to co-found Fort Apache Recording: Sean Slade, Jim Fitting, and Paul Kolderie; another, Russ Gershon, was a core room-mate at 117 Columbia Street when Joe moved into the house, where So-So Studios came to be located, first in his bedroom on the second floor and later in the living room next to it as well. Gershon's sax work and horn arranging -- not to mention the DX7 synth he had just purchased -- made their way onto a number of So-So projects includiong this one.
