about

Eric Rose (AKA Rosenfeld) was a member of the original Sidewinders on Mercury Records, along with Tim Jackson, Billy Squier, Andy Paley etc ... he remains the finest guitarist I have ever seen with my own eyes in person, a world class mofo with a Telecaster in the Jeff Beck / Roy Buchanan / Albert Lee / James Burton tradition. He came over to hang out one day and noticed I had acquired a recording rig. I asked if he had anything to record, and he said he had an idea bouncing around in his head he would like to put down. And then he sang each part, first takes every one, having me rewind and then adding the next harmony, for I believe a total of five tracks, starting with the baritone vocal part. He was wearing a pair of crocheted Christmas slippers at the time and sitting on an antique wheelchair I had decorated with bulbs and tinsel. The whole thing took him under a half-hour, resulting in the Gregorian Beach Boys number you hear -- it had no title, so I used his final boast at the end.
