about

Joe Harvard was drawn into the world of Boston rock initially through his visits to the Record Garage, where he would later work during the late 70's, and his friendship with Billy Cole, then guitarist with Baby's Arm. When Baby's Arm lost their tenth or eleventh bass player, Joe saw his chance to join a band he liked, and bought a 1966 Metallic Red Jazz Bass and a Sunn Coliseum 300w, 2x18" mega-rig. Harvard would earn his first original music dollar at the Club with that group on March 12, 1978 [he got 1/4 of four dollars - which really should've gone to Stefan Lovelace, who played most of the set]. Unfortunately, Joe could barely play, becoming the eleventh or twelfth ex-bass player in Baby's Arm -- roughly in between Randall and Carmen Monoxide. But he had gotten to play live on some great Frank Rowe songs, and learned others -- like "Can't Spell Romance" -- from the bench.
