Well, the sun comes up in the little Midwest township to bake the kids while they're asleep They're all squirming in their sheets and dreaming teenage dreams "Get up it's time for school!" Ma screams "Get up!" All the kids in the Midwest junior high school they're buzzing, squirmin' in their seats. All their teachers wonder why the kids are acting loose. Today it's hard to be the teach. The answer's simple it's as simple as could be: tonight the Gods of Rock appear! At the Major Size Auditorium Concert Club Civic Center Skating Rink in the Midwest what do you think? All the kids they're up standing on their seats, they're all sweatin' down their backs and their rosy cheeks are flushed with fever. All the kids in the 16th row agree that the light show and the haircuts are the best ones of the year All the kids in junior high agree: this is the Big Event of the year - when the Gods of Rock appear! At the Major Size Auditorium Concert Club Civic Center Skating Rink in the Midwest what do you think? SOLO All the kids in the Midwest junior high school goin' mental and their kickin' desks and windows out the building The teachers crawl under the new computer terminal but the building is on fire and their ass is Bar-B-Q! All the kids in the junior high agree: this is the big event of the year - when the Gods of Rock appear! At the Major Size Auditorium Concert Club Civic Center Skating Rink in the Midwest what do you think? Sittin in front of a TV set they thought “This is an ugly mess!” Famine, Death and Pestilence and the horrible stench of the Press So they switched the channel to another station and forgot about it And they turned the pages of the daily paper Well the Press smells blood and they’re closing in on the immediate next of kin Click, click, click in color where the dogs of war have been Twisted ruins never seem like somebody else’s neighborhood So they switched the channel to another station and forgot about it And they turned the pages of the daily papers And no news is good news when I don’t want to hear about it Turn your head around if you don’t like the pictures, and read the paper upside-down Act like a clown if you’re still serious, and bay like a hound if you’re still listening at all Livin’ in another over there [repeat] You could be livin’ in ‘another over there’ Sittin in front of a TV set they thought “This is an ugly mess!” Famine, Death and Pestilence and the horrible stench of the Press So they switched the channel to another station and forgot about it And they turned the pages of the daily papers And no news is good news when I don’t want to hear about it Livin’ in another over there [repeat] You could be livin’ in ‘another over there’

about

500 TV was the 'working name' for the 500 Teeth of Vengeance, a fanciful name suggested to Joe by the Boston 500, a mid-70's concept that there was a hypothetical list of 500 people in Boston who went out to every show and made up all the good bands [a not-so-hypothetical version of which was actually printed on a Pastiche 45 cover].

Sebastian Steinberg played a 5-string Yamaha bass and Clark "Dark' Goodpastor played drums. Joe Harvard played electric XII string guitars ['66 Fender XII and a '66 Epiphone Riviera XII] and Telecaster live, as well as using a whammy-bar equipped Strat and regular and Nashville tuned acoustics on recordings.

The group that Clark "Dark" acquired his nickname from was truly legendary. Their exploits included an afternoon of guerrilla sets played from the back of a flatbed truck in Boston and Cambridge, as well as the "all bands on deck" Rumble finale the year that they lost to Someone and the Somebodies but scored big for Hub band solidarity. Clark went on to Life on Earth with Reeves Gabrelle [later of David Bowie's Tin Machine], and also spent a year managing the twin Forts Apache around 1989.

Sebastian "Bash" Steinberg, who Joe liked to call "Boops" (as in 'me boops deah'), had been a member of the reggae group the Shy Five when Joe first saw him play. Harvard recognized his considerable low end prowess, although he had no idea of the breadth of Steinberg's talent. Only after Joe had recruited Bash for Mr. Happy, while recording 'Love & Music: Play! Play! Play!', did he become aware of the latter's virtuoso command of electric and acoustic standup bass in virtually any genre.

Joe invited Bash and Jerry to stay around when the 5-piece Mr. Happy disbanded and the three-piece 500 Teeth of Vengeance formed. Deupree's popularity as a devotee of his own instrument had made him extremely busy, though, and he exited to be replaced by the metronomic Clark "Dark". Clark earned his nom de guerre with the legendary Dark, whose 'all hands on deck' Rumble final with Someone and the Somebodies was emblematic of Boston's intra-band solidarity in the Golden Age of the late 70's and early 80's. The Dark had also done a hit-and-run, guerrilla tour of Boston and Cambridge one afternoon, playing on a rented truck via gas-powered generator and then splitting before anyone could figure out they had no permit.

'All Fired Up' is thus the second record Joe and "Bash" would do together before the latter returned to his NYC birthplace and joined Soul Coughing for eight highly productive years ['92-2000]. Steinberg then went on to record with William Shatner, Cibo Mato, Marc Ribot, Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr & many others, and has played and toured with the Shy Five, Syd Straw, Dixie Chicks, k.d. lang, and Joe Morris, among others.
